ORIGINS Whetstone was started by Stephen Satterfield in San Francisco, CA. The origins of the project began as a continuation of a food media project called, Nopalize, which he helped create while managing at Nopa Restaurant. We are a remote team with contributors in various parts of the world.
ORIGIN FORAGING We talk about origin a lot. Most often, our point of view on food is rooted in the historical and anthropological. Humans have always told stories of origin. When we don't know where something comes from, these stories provide meaning and context. In the fall of 2015, we began production on a new kind of publication, one that you can read or watch, that helps provide meaning and context about the things we eat and drink.
